Sunset somewhere on the Atlantic Ocean as we were getting closer to our final destination. We were on day 11 of our Spring cruise. The next morning, around dawn, the ship would be arriving in Brooklyn, New York.

"Glimmering Thistle"
This is not the bright, vivid color you usually associate with the vibrant Thistle wildflower. I decided something softer might be a nice change so I overexposed the shot to get this light, delicate and softly colored thistle. It looks a bit elegant to me; what do you think?

The beautiful Coprinellus micaceus (Glimmertintling) found on old roots of beech (Fagus sylvatica) in the Palatinate Forest.
Typical are the glimmering glittering scales (velum) on the cap. Like all ink cap species, the fruiting body fades to black spore mass at maturity.
