I had a realization in the past couple days while mostly asleep, that plugging USB wifi dongles in to the routers on stock firmware might work a lot better if it's done once they are already booted.

except for a couple specific router models paired with specific dongles, wifi dongles aren't officially supported by the stock rom. and I suspect a lot of the problems I've seen trying to use them anyway come from said firmware expecting only what it expects, at boot time.

one annoying thing tends to do is spec their devices for input power up to (for example) 5V 4A, and then ship a noncompliant charger with a USB plug on it.

this makes it a bit hard to use some of these devices in certain situations where the original power adapter can't be used, because finding one that fits the use case is difficult, and/or splicing is required.

Konsumenthaltung? Support your local dealer?

Ich kaufe schon online, aber nicht bei . Jetzt will ich einen Router von mit vorinstalliertem kaufen und bin geneigt, mangels greifbarer Alternativen ausnahmsweise bei Bezos zu ordern.

Started messing around with a travel router. Really like the concept, but found out that I need v4.x of their firmware to do what I want to. The stable branch was still on 3.x for the Beryl so I tried the beta version of the 4.x. It wasnโ€™t the best. Also found that the Beryl only has 32mb of storage. Lulz.

Iโ€™m returning the Beryl and getting a GL-iNet instead. The main reason being the 128mb of storage and, since itโ€™s newer, easier access to the 4.x firmware.

This is one of those things where I donโ€™t really need a travel router, but I do travel around the state a lot for work. Something like this could be handy. Also, I love playing with little toys like this.

I'll blame @matt for these purchases.

I'm feeling so burnt out at the moment that I don't even feel like opening these up and setting them up. That's a big deal, cause I love getting new gadgets to tinker with.

I have started to use . Usually I travel with various networked devices and being in a hotel, maybe in a country not tourist friendly, I need the feeling of protection. So I bought a travel router, GL.inet , and I am really satisfied. Installed a set of VPN profiles and only need to connect this one router to the WLAN (or Ethernet port, if this is still active). All my devices know the travel router and connect immediately. Quick, easy and better protection.

After getting frustrated with router this week I ended up ordering a it's a smaller brand that ships devices with

It's a fork of an earlier branch, I think mostly because it has out of tree drivers for its chipset. But it's got active development to bring it in line with newer releases.

It had both a friendly ui and access to the full interface. Very happy, highly recommend!

are brilliant. Iโ€™ve had their Mango tinyurl.com/2s3henwu for a few months now. Stashed in my rucksack for hotel rooms and work stuff, and it has been really handy and easy to use.
So when I needed a router to augment my fibre box, I went for the Flint tinyurl.com/bdh8sz8w.

Having pre-installed was delightful.

In a very short space of time, I had the network set-up how I wanted it:
SSIDs created, DHCP organised, ports opened to the correct devices, set-up and running and server. The last two were bonuses. Effortless to setup bonuses.

A propos , they cooperate with web browsers to hide their Man in the Middle Attacks and convince people to use their e.g. DNS servers.

They cooperate with routers' manufacturers as well to push their services.

Look at . The next 'privacy and security oriented' entity. They promote Cloudflare even on their website.

But you know, they're are trustworthy. I know, I know like and others.
