For the tetrahedron, the answer is pretty clearly yes, as triangles can always be broken down into smaller triangles. The dodecahedron is a little more ambiguous, as you end up with three different shapes, which would make it exceeding difficult to plot location.

The obvious follow-up is, can a coordinate system be created for a non-regular polygon like the 14-sided example in the image?

We are learning about longitude and latitude in Grade 6 Social Studies. The question I gave my students was "Is it possible to create a coordinate grid system for non-spherical regular polygons?"
