I was trying to say "there are no seals in Seal Beach" -- "ʻAʻohe sila o Seal Beach" and my kumu corrected me because it came out like "ʻAʻohe sila ʻo Seal Beach." I need to get used to putting a #glide between the "a" of "sila" and the possessive "o," otherwise it becomes a name-indicator "ʻo". #speakhawaiian #olelohawaii #languages #glottalstop #okina

My #1 problem trying to speak #Hawaiian is that my. Tongue. Wants. To. Put. A. Full. Glottal. Stop. Between. Every. Word. Especially when I am trying to speak clearly!!!! That is bad in Hawaiian because the glottal stop is a component of a word (or not), and you canʻt just throw them in there or you might change the meaning. #speakhawaiian #olelohawaii #languages #glottalstop #okina
