They have a farewell ceremony for everyone but that is not top priority. Top is always caring for the living and burying/cremating the dead, especially in a war, attack or other emergency. When it is safe, they will gather and say farewell. They don't need a body to do that. And people with or without family and friends get remembered. It's the task of the community, not of the relatives.

#WritingWonders 28: What sort of diversity exists in your main cast of characters? Since there are different types of beings, they come in all shapes and sizes, genders and sexual preferences and none of that is a problem within the groups. Merpeople could make fun about the strange mating habits of harpies though but that isn't a source of discrimination. Have to be careful not to get preachy about how great that is though.

#WritingWonders 27: Are there human rights issues in your world? If so, does your MC ever address them? Let's call them beings rights, because there are many different beings. And yes, even though, on the surface, everything looks perfect, some conflicts brew within different groups, there is a kind of being-ism and species-ism that leads to privileges and power imbalances that lead to rights issues. And yes, over time, both my MCs will address these. I'm not there yet though.

#WritingWonders 26: Are there any characters with chronic health issues in your story? I'm a bit behind, been very busy.
It's a magical world and they have different ways of healing. At first glance there aren't any. Maybe when we learn more about that world, but I'd have to think about this, because I don't know all that much about chronical health issues. I don't want to make the magic the 'solve all' means to all problems, there have to be limits. Great point to think about.

#WritingWonders 25: What tropes do you utilize in your story? I find that hard to answer since I don't consciously use tropes but they sneak in. Of course when I set out to write fantasy, I want to include fantasy elements like
magic, quest, dark enemy, good vs evil, which all are in the current WIP but with twists of my own I hope. I consciously try to follow the hero's or the heroine's journey and some of these tropes are always part of such a journey. Mentor is another, and so on.

#writingWonders 24: Does food play a role in your world? Yes, but not a prominent one, there aren't recipes or much detail about food preparation or such. But hospitality is a big thing in that world and when people are hungry, they get food and it usually is plenty, tasty and well prepared. Stevie is served a chocolate cake for desert that makes her delirious--but the host was mistaking her for the consort of a king so maybe that wasn't what they normally serve. 😂

#WritingWonders 23: Are any of your characters artistic or musicians? Stevie refuses to sing or perform, she feels embarrassed when asked.
Her new world is full of art and music and that is highly valued. Everyone needs to recharge their magic and so they work in gardens, fields, paint, sculpt, make music-- only the tedious work no one likes is shared by all. Many actors and performers travel the world, stay for a bit, include and teach anyone interested and spread gossip and fashions. #GLWW123

#WritingWonders 22: Describe a ritual or tradition from your world. Stevie hasn't been long enough in that world to learn all that much but there's a few things I wrote in without much thought. There's the tradition of apprenticeship. Young people either live with masters of the art/craft they want to pursue or there's a kind of youth exchange with other families in different parts of the world for a few years. In the past they sometimes were hostages when countries went to war.

I always start out wanting to write about an utopia where everything is fair and just and then people complicate everything. The world I'm writing about may be a bit fairer to some beings than ours, everyone gets what they need, food, clothing, housing without having to work or to pay but there is feudalism which leads to some injustice with power and decision-making and there is a kind of being-ism or species-ism among the beings.

#WritingWonders 20 - How dangerous is your world? What are the dangers? Stevie came from our world which is a dangerous place, it depends where you are and how privileged.
The magical world where she goes is likewise very dangerous but if you like a quiet life, you can have it. Until the antagonist and his armies come along, attack one kingdom after the other and destroy the land. There's intrigue, betrayal, wild animals, magical beings, elemental beings, the elements, and magic.

#WritingWonders 19: Describe your favorite side character and their relationship with your MC. My favourite though not Stevie's is General Quinn. I need to be careful not to make him the MC. He despises her and her world. She hates his arrogance and admires his competence. My characters still need a lot of work, so far they are mostly alive in my head.

Stevies values can be summed up with the golden rule, with tolerance, justice, and equality.

#WritingWonders 17 - what is a typical meal for your main character.
Stevie eats almost anything when someone else cooks. She isn't fussy and appreciates good food. Her favourites are desserts, especially when they contain huge amounts of chocolate.
When she's onn her own it's either uni cafeteria meals or pizza. In her current situation it's either starving or feasts.

#WritingWonders 16: What does your MC find fun?
It used to be: dancing with friends in a club, hanging out with friends or her brother, being outdoors, reading... the usual, more or less. In her current situation, she hasn't had much fun yet other than flying on a dragon. For now she's running from one dangerous situation to the next and has gained personal experience with different kinds of prisons and dungeons. But at least the food is good.

Stevie likes to be alone but not to be lonely. She likes to be around people if they are OK with leaving her alone to recharge if she needs it.
She's uncomfortable in crowds but she likes being with people she likes or trusts. She's reserved with strangers and not easily convinced that they're honest when they show her a friendly face.

#WritingWonders 14. Does your MC show their true self to others or do they wear a mask?
Stevie thinks she is wearing a mask when she feels 'bad feelings' like jealousy of the attention her brother gets. She knows that he needs it and thus wants to mask it. She is, however, an open book and her face usually shows clearly what she feels. Since she knows that, she completely withdraws in such situations. Everything else is out in the open.

Outdoors, in the forest or at the seaside, in a garden, nature, plants... that's where Stevie feels comfortable. Her research lab gets a close second. At least it did until things changed... 😁

Stevie doesn't really have close friends (yet?) Closest would be her roommate at uni who would describe her as aloof, helpful, friendly and loyal.
Her brother Robin would describe her as supportive, loving, loyal to a fault.
Vellia, a girl who might become a close friend says she's helpful, talented, loyal and a bit weird.

Stevie completely trusts her brother Robin until she doesn't. She has to go on a rollercoaster of trust and betrayal--some real, some imagined--until she knows where her true friends are.
