We love seeing green spaces improved and expanded! If you're in the #SomervilleMA area and have a spare hour next week, stop in and check out these plans for Junction Park along the #GLX!

Exciting news! The construction phase of the Somerville Junction Park project is gearing up to begin within the next month. Attend the virtual construction kick-off meeting on Mon., August 14, and a groundbreaking ceremony on Weds., August 16. Learn more: https://voice.somervillema.gov/somerville-junction
It has been a month since the formal ribbon-cutting on the #SomervilleMA Community Path extension (and even longer since people started walking and riding on it)! Folks in the area, have you been enjoying this new way to get across Somerville alongside the #GLX?
Rode my bike on the GLX community path to the Charles this morning! Not at all crowded a little after 9am.
If you're used to the Minuteman or Boston-area riding in general, the elevation changes might surprise you. There are some steep inclines/declines that follow Somerville's natural hills and the sky bridge near Lechmere. If hills are tricky, consider an ebike for this ride.
At a moderate ~11 mph pace to took me 17 minutes to ride from Davis Square to the terminus at Lechmere, and another couple minutes of confused circling around North Point Park in Cambridge to reach the river.
The signage is much better eastbound; if you're continuing past Lechmere and planning a return trip, I recommend taking a moment to orient to where the path actually starts because it's not well-marked yet and there's tons of construction.

Somerville Community Path, Ball Square to Boston and Back.
About 30m of biking.

Thanks to everyone who helped get this built and who put on the pressure to get it opened. It might be a game-changer and it for sure is beautiful.
@mem_somerville #GLX in particular has been sort of maddeningly-confusing. From the terminus at Tufts, supposedly a train leaves every "5-7 minutes" but I have definitely gone and sat down and waited fifteen minutes, and even twenty, burning up all of the schedule padding allowances I made even before leaving the station.
My most frequent ride is all the way to the other end at the VAMC in JP, usually for actual appointments.
I find this #Somerville #GLX update really curious:

It's announcing that there will be a closure of part of the Community Path Extension (#CPX) for some months, but don't worry, there will be a two-way cycle-lane detour on a nearby street to replace that segment.
Which is great, don't get me wrong, but the CPX *hasn't opened yet*! The city has been very clear on this.
Why isn't the Somerville Community Path open yet? Mike Connolly (MA state rep) gives a detailed explanation.

TLDR: The path may look mostly complete, but there are still incomplete parts, including safety and accessibility issues to fix.

I *might* be shooting a new-to-me Kodak Tourist on the Orange Line this afternoon.
Might even ride the #GLX if this Orange train ever decides to leave Forest Hills. #BelieveInFilm #Boston
#GLX final pieces: the bike path. Not yet--and this is the first time I heard of the long delay near Gilman Sq due to construction: "a year or more". Grrrrr... #MBTA #MApoli #SomervilleMA

CPX Update: (slide from SBAC)
Currently no segment can be opened, city is tring to get some.

Not expecting a drawn out lease process, that's going smoothly.
So I found out about #WomensMarch today quite late, but made it over to the State House. #GLX continues to be sweeeeet.
Interestingly, I see NOTHING about it on birdsite. Activism is moving away from there.
Great speeches by local pols--we have some very good and strong women out in front of this. Including 2 #Boston city council folks, I don't know their names.
Anyway, some favorite views of the hundreds who came out for #ReproductiveRights #ReproductiveJustice #RoeVsWade #MApoli

Wow, the 1-seat trip to the Boston Public Library via the #GLX is wonderful. I'm using the library more.
My housemate and I also noticed that the trains are well used, even at non-commuter times. Hoping to see some ridership numbers soon.

Adventures in the #GLX - my friend and I both live in the catchment area of the green line extension and have been talking about getting lunch at lechmere ever since it opened. However google is telling me itβs faster to take the orange line to community college and walk, and itβs faster for her to take the 80 π
Oops my gif on Mastodon lost its animation, so I'll repost from the bird site. Same nice #cityscape of the new #GLX train heading to @TuftsUniversity@twitter.com
In #Somerville at dusk, here's a gif of the new #mbta #GreenLine train heading to #TuftsUniversity. Photo taken from the new #GLX bike path extension. It's a lovely good-bye to 2022 -- we'll catch a return trip back to work @tuftsnutrition in 2023!
