As a Linux system administrator and free software fan, I like to lurk on many different mailing lists. For many years, I am using #gmane for that. Use an #NNTP client like #pan or #thunderbird and point it to news.gmane.io to read any mailing list you are interested in. I am so happy this service still exists!
