Three days climbing below the col de l’Ancrenaz in Aiguille rouge. The view on massif du Mont Blanc from the bivy is stunning. The proximity of the spring « des eaux noires » and the tranquility of this place makes it easy to enjoy a long stay at the bottom of the cliffs.
Climbs:
- les noces d’étain
- pharaon d’un soir + colosse aux pieds d’argile
- songe d’une nuit d’hiver.

I came upon this stream-polished boulder along the Quinebaug River, just below East Brimfield Reservoir near #Sturbridge, #Massachusetts. Because it has been transported and I just took a photo, I don’t know its origins…but it looks like either the Quinebaug or Marlboro formations, Ordovician and Cambrian, respectively. Laurentia, not Gondwana. Lovely banding, eh? Lens cap is about 4 cm in diameter.

South Uist, 2020.
The boat in the foreground was called Stardust, but that really does depend on who's story you choose to believe...

One day here in northeastern MN, we went out on a walk to see where the wild blueberries were, and we came upon a rock outcropping. I always pick up interesting rocks. This one is a foliated gneiss, probably over 2 1/2 billion years old. And there it was, just waiting for me to pick up. That I live where such old things are there on the surface...mindblowing

I HAD to bring this gorgeous Norwegian #rock face with me from the bird site :)
This rock face was likely #gneiss, a foliated #metamorphic rock where light minerals and dark minerals form in alternating bands due to high heat and pressure. This rock was further complexly folded and refolded during continental collisions and mountain building.
The rock face also has an unusual & beautiful texture caused by the more erodible bands partially eroding.
