It USED to be possible to right-click->new folder while in 'list view' in the old Gnome window manager; but now I can't and i find myself having to constantly switch between icon view to right-click->new folder and list view to order-by->modified date. This is incredibly stupid, I feel like every time we take a step forward in innovation we take two backwards in basic functionality. #linux #gnome3 #opensource #ubuntu

Had somebody recommended #Xfce4 to me in 2021 I'd would've purged them from my address book.

After two years of #Gnome3 on #Ubuntu, I would believe it if somebody told me it was designed by #DieterRams. 😂

The SO of my sister in law is one of those know-it-all Linux oldtimers, and because I know he uses #Ubuntu at work I once asked how he deals with the shitty #Gnome3 desktop environment.

Answer: "For my work I only need a web browser and a terminal emulator, and I run both fullscreen."

Installed #XFce4 and wowser after 15 minutes configuration with zero previous experience this is so much nicer than #Gnome3 after years of misery.

As someone who previously has used mostly very minimalist desktop environments, I am warming to #GNOME3. It requires some plugins to make it usable, but the user experience isn't bad once you get used to its quirks and differences.

An unofficial patch for running a proprietary OS yields noticeably better overall performance on a nearly 10-year-old, unsupported machine than a cutting-edge Linux distribution with a modern desktop environment. What kind of a kit do I need to run #Linux with #KDE at an acceptable level of smoothness? We're apparently in #Windows11 territory. This is just silly. Maybe #Gnome3 performs better.

There’s of course #unixporn, which always impresses with the setups some users create. But what about when I don’t want to spend hours on end tinkering with my desktop and system setup? That leaves me with #Ubuntu and #Gnome3 for a halfway decent out-of-the-box experience. All while losing access to professional software like the #Affinity suite. Linux still appears to be unequipped for use by non-developers or non-enthusiasts. If I’m overlooking something obvious here, please let me know.

Ich nutze Gnome 3 seit der "ersten Inkarnation" leidenschaftlich gerne. Umgestiegen von Mate/cinnamon und war von Anfang an total begeistert. Fand's von Anfang an angenehm intuitiv, schnell, übersichtlich.
Ich habe mein Nutzungsverhalten schnell angepasst, weil es so angenehm war.

Also hier sehr viel Liebe, sehr wenig Hass für #gnome3 #gnomeshell 🥰

#IMHO, #Gnome is unusable since the version 3 (#Gnome3). But the good old #Gnome2 still exists and is usable, it is #MATE #Desktop Environment.

Ho avuto la seria necessità di effettuare questa operazione decine e decine di volte, e quindi vai giù di script bash e tool vari ed eventuali...
E ora, all'improvviso, PER SBAGLIO, scopro che questa funzionalità è SEMPRE stata presente dentro Nautilus solo che avevo mai pensato a selezionare l'opzione 'rinomina' con più file selezionati contemporaneamente.
Sono sconvolto.
Anche un po' felice, ma sconvolto.
