iPhone Pro has a Dynamic Island, but if GNOME 45 goes according to plan, it’ll have a Dynamic Archipelago!

I've been talking a bit with folks working on GNOME about the state of System Monitor app and its handful of community-made alternatives, then I had a thought:
Is it a wild idea to just... not have the app?
Wait wait, put away your pitchforks! We could do something better!
What if the reasons people actually use System Monitor were just exposed more contextually in the OS, for everyone? 🤔
For example...
I blogged about something I’ve been talking about/working on/following for months (or years, depending on how you count!): https://cassidyjames.com/blog/freedesktop-accent-colors-gnome-proposal/
There’s a fun little quiz/challenge thing towards the end; let me know how you do!

If you use GNOME, do you use Tweaks for one of these settings, and/or something else?
• Text size/font scaling
• Window focus behavior
• Startup/auto-starting apps
(Feel free to reply for context/nuance!)
If you use GNOME, do you use auto-starting apps, e.g. apps that launch when you log in?
(Feel free to reply for context/nuance!)
Do you use “Focus on Hover” or “focus follows mouse” behavior?
(See previous post for a screenshot, reply for context.)

(Answer in the following poll.)
Do you use the “Large Text” option in Settings → Accessibility → Seeing?
Alternatively, do you set a different font scaling factor somewhere else, e.g. in Tweaks?

GNOME users, I have some questions for you! This won’t single-handedly drive the design of GNOME (I’m not that influential… yet 😉 ), but anecdata is always nice to help unstick design discussions or just gather insights.
(Polls will follow posts as you can’t share an image and a poll, sadly.)
I just had a super productive discussion with some talented designers and developers within #GNOME. I’m happy to see some long-wanted but often-delayed work being picked back up, and excited to be involved in the process!
I think we’re gonna get some thing spiked out and prototyped, but spoiler alert: it’s to do with making GNOME feel more your own while considering the needs of app authors and distros.
