@thephd this viscerally and unpleasantly reminded me of Marcus Müller's cowardly ambush, insults, and threats towards my GNU Radio runtime panel - and anyone participating in that long-planned event - at #GRCon20.

I chaired the conference that year and had a great lineup along with prototype results.

Very sorry to see this happen to Rust, but at least there's an apology, some dialogue, and a potential path forward.

That's more than I can say for the #gnuradio SDR DSP framework crowd.

Ha! With some GNU Radio and a custom block which can read the #SigMF format I have the first plot of the #SETI message...

The plot has been sped up to get fast results, so no real details visible yet.

Aha! With #Aldec help, I've got Riviera-PRO running in Linux (Windows + WSL). I've got #gnuradio doing a Mode A transmission. I just need the final piece to connect the two and then I've got full cosimulation!

Well appears as if there's no concept of time in #gnuradio. Everything is sample based. It's understandable but means the first helper module I think I will need to write is a sample counter though to provide other modules with a concept of time.

@Tathar Well, for avionics test, I do signal receipt and correlation and demodulation, then the other side modulation and transmission in #VHDL. However that's not what's making me walk through gnuradio. Apparently #Aldec has a block that lets you use #gnuradio in co-simulation with #Riviera-PRO. If I have an easier to work with signal generation or signal analysis tool, it would aid verification.

I've written signal toolbox stuff in VHDL for simulation, but I'll be honest, it's a pain in the ass to work with: tedious to construct and a pain in the ass to modify (depending on what you want.). There's a possibility gnuradio is easier (though also a possibility it is not. I've not yet got through a tutorial that actually gave me a sense of how the tool deals with time. I think it probably doesn't which means if I need a particular timing I will be sample counting and it'll make it anchored to sample rate when it'd just be nicer to wait X microseconds and then modulate.)

Progressing further through the #gnuradio tutorials. I'm not sure I"m yet to the point of knowing how to apply time based modulation to the signals, but possibly getting closer.

@wb2ifs I was the one wearing a #gnuradio hoodie, hoping to spread the word that inexpensive RTL SDR devices and a computer that can `apt install gqrx-sdr gnuradio` allows a person new ways to see and hear the otherwise unseen electromagnetic world that surrounds us.

One of my personal #SDR projects has developed to the point where I think I'm going to need to learn #GNUradio to do what I want to do. That's definitely a weekend project, not a weeknight project.

I just got my first receiver working with gnu radio companion.

Nothing fancy, mind you - an osmocom source, a slider for center frequency that doesn't do what I expected at all, a waterfall, an AM demodulator, and an audio sink.

I thought I'd tune it by adjusting the center frequency but it's not the case.

It does show the expected spectra on the waterfall though, and there is radio noise and static playing back over the speakers.

I can't tune it, but it does make radio noise! Hey, it's a start :D
