Pretty happy to have made the bike commute for a third day. Took a new route today along a new “Complete Street” that then connects to a paved trail beside railway tracks, that connects to some on-road bike lanes routes. 14km total. It was much flatter than the previous route and so it was a lot faster and easier even though it was 2km longer. The most enjoyable part is definitely the complete street. If we had been building streets like this for the past 50 years the world would be a very very different place!

The ride back featured longer inclines so it was a little slower but I still made it in basically the same time as the morning ride when I took a wrong turn. My bum is a little sore and my legs will be sore tomorrow, but overall, not bad! The longest distance ride I've done for about 23 years!

And thanks to the EV for the first 68km it would also be the lowest CO2 commute I have had since I moved out of Nanaimo 20 years ago when I actually biked all the way to work.

I know this is commonplace for some, but over the weekend I was able to run all my errands by bike. Including--but not limited to--picking up 10kg of dog food, all of our groceries, some home automation supplies, and baby needs.

Driving is can stressful, and I'm tired / opportunistically looking for ways to get some exercise in lately, so it was refreshing to skip the car for a lot of these tasks.

Celebrating the end of Bike to School Week with a huge party. The kids loved the bike bling decorating station and obstacle course. The free bananas, oranges, and freezies were also very popular.

It brings great joy to my heart to see every bike rack was full and then some. Hundreds of kids biking and scootering to school today at our local Vancouver elementary. 🚴🛴

After school there will be a celebration party with bike decorating, an obstacle course, tune-ups, free snacks, and a DJ.

Last week one of my early morning #Dutch urban planning adventures took me through docklands, industrial yards, suburban tracts, and dense housing for new immigrants around #Utrecht.

I biked 30 km from #IKEA south of the city, to #CastleDeHaar to the northwest.

And all of it was safe & easy by #bike.

My normal train was cancelled (presumably lingering disruption following recent #strikes). No big deal, I can be late today. The bonus is that i get to travel in the light and look at the lovely view! Today is my final commute of the year, looking forward to more in 2023.
