There's a lot of fuss atm about Dahl's books being rewtitten, by as I read "Bats in the Belfry", I'm wondering why Lorac gets a total free pass, unabashed hate and prejudice toward a far-too-often maligned minority left untouched. 😢 #AmReading #bookstodon #ebooks #GoldenAgeMystery

@Inge oh, I want this book, how wonderful! Didn’t know it existed!
I’m currently deep in #Trove still, reading about the lime kilns. And when I’m not doing that, reading Dorothy L. Sayers and Robert Eustace, “The Documents in the Case.” Another #GoldenAgeMystery, but without my beloved #LordPeterWimsey .

How on earth had I not read this Dorothy L Sayers novel before? Loved the epistolary format and being in the position of detective in the case. Documents in the Case is a good read for #goldenagemystery fans like me. #dorothylsayers @bookstodon

A question for the #books experts @bookstodon and anyone versed in this history: Cowdroy's "Murder of Lydia" was published in 1933 & includes the highlighted phrase, suggesting it was already standard. Does anyone know since when? #AmReading #ebooks #GoldenAgeMystery

Written long before Elmore Leonard's "use only 'said' to report dialogue" rule, it is in large part that very fact which makes this such a powerful example of the wisdom of Leonard's edict. #AmReading #GoldenAgeMystery #books #ebooks @bookstodon

After the mixed bag that was Christianna Brand's "Green for Danger", Bush's 2nd Travers story, "The Perfect Murder Mystery" is proving as entertaining as the first, thanks to imagery like this. Score this week is definitely Dean Street Press 1, British Library Crime Classics 0😊 #amreading #books #ebooks #goldenagemystery @bookstodon

bringing together two of my interests, #Arsenal and #GoldenAgeMystery - how many #ArsenalFCSocial members have read "The Arsenal Stadium Mystery"? I hope it doesn't make a me a bad Gooner that I struggled to get through it. Maybe I should watch the film instead

A question for writers: How is this in any way "ironical"? It seems to me to a simple statement of an obvious truth. From "Green for Danger" by Christianna Brand #GoldenAgeMystery #amreading @bookstodon #books

My first Christianna Brand may be just my kind of mystery - a 'closed circle of 7, with 3 of them dead by halfway. My detection skills make Hastings look like Holmes, but even I might be able to work out whodunnit at this rate. #GoldenAgeMystery #amreading #bookstodon #ebooks

Disclaimer: I thought "Justified" was an exceptional TV series, but respectfully think Leonard's "Rules for Writing" inapplicable to my favourite genre. As a fan of #GoldenAgeMystery , I love writing that breaches many of his "cut to the chase" rules. As in this opening paragraph of Christopher Bush's "The Perfect Murder"

TFW you realise that a blog post you were going to write about the villains and victors of your year of #GoldenAgeMystery reading would have to be broken into 3 parts #amreading #logorrhea #bookstodon

Starting "The Perfect Murder" the second in Christopher Bush's Ludovic Travers series, and I'm predisposed to like it already by the wording of the disclaimer:
"All the characters in this story have never lived,
are certainly not living,
and will almost as certainly never be born.
They are, in short,
wholly fictitious."

I am so enjoying my re-reading of my favourite Golden Age mystery author, Dorothy L. Sayers.
I first read all the Wimsey stories in my teens (mumblety years ago) but had somehow let five years or more lapse between readings this time. Everything feels fresh again. Perhaps it’s just my ageing memory.
Or perhaps it’s because I have been slowly replacing my very old, foxes, falling apart, fifth hand paperbacks with a brand new, matching cover set.
In any case, I’m happy watching Lord Peter develop Into the wonderful creature Sayers allowed him to become,
