#retrocomputing experiments for 23-Aug-23

1) Cheap #Goldenfir SSD incompatible w/ Compaq Presario Athlon 64 system

#Linux distros unable to boot from or see drive reliably. dmesg output showed ATA Command initialization failures

Same SSD works fine on this system.

2) Presario working OK w/ old WD drive, new #antiX install, res stuck at 640x480 presently but fixable

3) Gave up on vintage PCI Wi-Fi adapter, nothing but trouble. Went with a used travel router to act as Ethernet bridge.

So happy to have the i7 desktop back in the running. I took the drive from the Dell laptop that I had removed during the upgrade the other day. So it just booted straight into Ubuntu, no problem.

I'm curious if I can read anything off the #goldenfir SSD that was in the i7 before it crashed.
