In Thursday’s class I remelted an ingot I made last year for this project. When I milled the sheet to around 20ga (0.9mm) it had too many air bubbles. Thursday class is the study and practice of granulation. The frame around the citrine in my rough drawing will be granulated.

looks with two joins. I’m going to use the ingot next to it which I alloyed a while ago. I think it will produce a single wire the right thickness 26ga (0.45mm) and width (5mm) and long enough, 6.7” (170mm), to wrap around the stone in one piece.

mounted on a leather cuff (I will ask a leathersmith to make). It’s for someone with ALS I became friends with on Twitter. I am mindful that she cannot use her hands and arms, hence the leather. It may be softer and lighter against her skin and more easily adjustable.

JEWELLERY CLASSES WEEK 2

Winter term at the 92Y began last week. I’m in my usual Classical Gold with a newish instructor, I took a class with her last semester.

Projects I’m working on:

A dendritic agate from Turkey, which I accidentally dropped. The break was clean and a handyman in my building epoxied it. It’s almost invisible. I will honour it kintsugi style by filling it in with 24k gold leaf. The stone will be
