Boyle, in Blue Skies, have this in common that they make "Nature" a character in their books. I recommend their books to anyone who likes this brooding, menacing, baroque (T.C. Boyle) style of writing. Osborne is more elegant and light, though at times he applies a sledgehamner. One of his latest books, Java Road, pictures Hong Kong during the crackdowns, with "Nature" here too playing a crucial role, reminding me of hiking sections of the MacLehose Trail or taking a boat to Lamma Island where pigeons were served at lunch. Boyle's When the Killing's Done is a quintessential California read. Blue Skies introduces Florida in all its moldiness under a smooth layer of editing done, apparently, by an overeager non-American (draped it round her shoulders.. . As if he were a snake...), which makes the prose even weirder and more ominous. #Books #GoodBooks

I stopped reading series novels about 15 years ago. I got tired of the obvious next book setups and cliff hanger, unsatisfying endings, aimed at hooking you on the next book.
But this series is so satisfying. Each nugget is complete. No dangling Chad's, you know? 😂
Best kind of series. Really thinks about the reader's experience.
