Joined a walking group a few weeks back. Started with 16 of us walking 5k 3 times a week. Woman who organised it all is taking a break and has handed running to me (I didn't volunteer).
It had dwindled to single figures by week 2. I am now the only regular walker. I am a one person walking group.

I guess in Fediverse like in real societies this is calling for a multitude of constant parallel debates about hegemony and the ways users (don't) want to interact inside instances. It seems to be an insurmountable difference.

Empathy with people doing the tech work for little communities wanting to provide safe landing places but suddenly finding themselves overloaded with new users & increasingly complex moderation tasks.
