A quick summary of my first week with Synology NAS after several months with Nextcloud.

TLDR: I was riding a bicycle. It was fun. Now I'm driving a car.

This thing just works. And makes it so fast that I forgot it has an ARM CPU inside. And just 2GB of RAM. My Nextcloud was spinning on a NUC with a Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, and an NVMe SSD. And I thought it was fast until I saw the performance of DS.

Synology Photos Android app is pure joy. Almost everything you had on Google Photos is here but with additional awesome features, like Shared space.

Synology Office is so much faster and stable compared to Colabora.

Synology Drive Android app is not crashing during every use...

I can go on, but my main point is you can tinker with anything you want in your #homelab, but for something importand for your whole family for years ehead you should choose something more stable and comfortable than Nextcloud.

For Android or mobile web, what's the best map-alternative to Google Maps? Either app or mobile web app. Seems there are plenty of apps in Google Play, but they all want to access too much on my phone.

Use-cases: Figuring out where I am, finding a route (car, public transportation, bike, walking) from A to B.

Not directly related, but a few weeks ago I tried looking for alternatives to Google maps and it is hard to find anything that does even half as good a job as g maps! Anyone have any recommendations??
