@drinkswriter - neither, your brain is good and google is currently the right tool.

The problem is #googleanalytics #ux and layer upon layer of unintuitive menuing.

I would like to track how many people click a button on my website but I just cannot get my head around how to do that in Google Analytics.

Wrong tool? Or just wrong brain?

Erin also says, and I agree, that there are alternatives to GA out there. I love @usefathom and @plausible. Both are GDPR compliant and work great.

Hey @JoeRess, your comment on a recent Late Night Linux podcast discussing Google's latest dystopian shenanigans got me thinking. It's important to separate advertising from tracking/profiling. We had ads on tv, radio and in newspapers for decades and the bargain being made was reasonably clear, these companies support this thing I like and they get to run their ads - fair play. The gross intrusion into privacy that is the online advertising caper - different story! #googleanalytics #ads

(vermutlich deshalb reicht einfache Cookieapzeptanz nicht, wenn weitere Drittanbieter geblockt sind. Die Schaltertafel ist auch nicht "für Menschen" gemacht, sondern formales #Blendwerk gesetzlichen Vorgaben zu folge zu leisten..🤷‍♂️)

Die Aussage "kein Tracking.."
ist schlicht unhaltbar, wenn bereits vor jeglicher Interaktion an #google fließen.

Since #GoogleAnalytics became illegal in the #EU some great alternatives have come to the forefront. My personal favorite is the #FOSS solution called #Goatcounter. Sometimes it is worth not sitting in the lap of the large companies. :-)

Because of $WORK, I’m discovering #Matomo ; which is an #RGPD compliant alternative to #GoogleAnalytics. What’s nice is that it can be self-hosted and running on PHP. It looks very complete. Drawback is that you need to include a JavaScript to your website. IMO it would have been nicer to just use the Web server’s logs to do the job.
