You've likely heard Google sold their domain service to #Squarespace. Having been with #googledomains for a number of years, I've transferred my domains to #Wordpress (wordpress.com). My needs are simple.

For a limited time they are transferring google domains for free. Ongoing cost is about the same as it was on Google. Was pretty simple to accomplish. Just an FYI.

Wonder when or if they'll sell Gmail?

I did a trial of transferring some domain names from #GoogleDomains to #Porkbun and I thought some of my mistakes might be interesting to others who aren't #DNS experts and are considering the switch.

1. Be sure to turn off DNSSEC in Google domains before the transfer. If you didn't: delete the DNSSEC record in Porkbun that came from Google and recreate it using the toggle switch in the Porkbun web UI.

2. Setup nameservers and DNS in Porkbun ASAP. Google deletes the old records quickly.

I moved a website that I host in my #homelab from #GoogleDomains to #Cloudflare registrar. After the move, I decided to try out the free proxy, and whoa, it’s cool! When I look up the IP address of my site, it shows a couple Cloudflare IPs instead of my home IP. That feels like a win for #privacy.

Why does #Google ALWAYS ditch their good stuff? #GoogleDomains was amazing. Simple to use, easy to manage, no GoDaddy upsell mess, inexpensive. Squarespace may carry that on, but just tired of losing the good Google stuff. Still clinging to my #GoogleVoice number 😪

With Google Domains being sold to SquareSpace, I'm curious if people in the #fediverse have a strong recommendation for an alternate registrar to transfer a domain to?

Google is selling its Google Domains business to Squarespace. Another Google service that gets eliminated. I hope they open up the .dev domain to other companies so that I can switch away.

Nice reminder if you are using #googledomains to start transferring your domains out to other platforms, I would use #cloudflare since it is pretty easy to transfer.
