I have the Nest thermostat and the downstairs one was off of wifi for ages. It complained that the battery was too low for wifi so I got one of these.

After I installed it, it was charging and then fell off of the wifi for, you guessed it, low battery.

This morning I rebooted the thermostat and it's been working since then on wifi.

I literally tried the IT Crowd solution and it worked.

Do any of you use a Google Nest Mini with a Chromecast? Mine stopped playing what I ask on Google TV and I have no idea how to fix it. If you're looking for a smart doorbell, please keep in mind #Ring doesn't stand by their product. I had a complaint within the warranty that they simply kicked down the road with software resets, knocking the known battery issue outside of warranty. Then had the audacity to offer a 30% discount to buy a new one... They also start charging you a monthly subscription after a year... #GoogleNest has maintained, and continues to be a good product.

I have had two occasions where it has become clear that my Google Home is listening and acting on things that are not said to it directly:

1. Much to my confusion, I received a push notification about the weather in Ibiza. It only became clear why a week later when my wife told me she was going there with her Mum. She had been discussing it next to one of our two Google Home devices.

2. Just now, I had a meeting where the word "Glasgow" was said several times (again, next to my Google Home), along with discussing an upcoming meeting there. When I opened Google Maps after that, it opened centred on central Glasgow. I live at the other end of the UK, there's no other reason for it to do that.

Now, I understand that both of these things were "helpful" as Google's algorithms saw it. I appreciate that it's trying to help me. The problem I've got is that as far as I know Google swears it doesn't listen when not addressed directly, when it clearly absolutely does. If it does for purposes that are "good" for me, what else does it do with what it hears.

You'd think a voice assistant would get better over time, but I'm pretty sure our Google Home (Nest) devices have got worse at understanding what I'm saying. It's pretty clear Google isn't investing in improving the experience and I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off just getting rid of them to save myself the frustration that comes from them failing to follow simple bloody instructions 🤬

But still, the big #HomePod makes no sense in Apple’s current line-up. At least in it’s current form. Give it a Display and turn it into a smart speaker+display and sell the Mini as the speaker-only version. Paying 300 bucks for just a Speaker still makes no sense to me, especially when #GoogleNest and #Echo are a thing.
