I’ve had a voice number for over 20 years? I am not sure how I am going to #DeGoogle this part of my life. If I lost a phone I could easily reestablish the number for authentication codes, etc without changing every account to a new phone number. Now, this thought is creating angst.

Will #Signal be part of a new way for contact when they implement user names? Will there ever be a bridge to legacy phone systems?

It’s impossible to sign up for google voice anymore, multiple legit brand new phone numbers do not work for verification. I cannot transfer it from my old account. I’m just going to have to use something else, which sucks. #Google #GoogleVoice

I just use the #GoogleVoice transcription feature, so I never have to actually listen to any voicemails. The transcription accuracy has gotten so good that I don't think I've had a single issue with incorrect names/numbers in something like 5 years. But if something does happen to get garbled, I can always call them back for clarification.

Happy to see the #googlevoice app get some attention, namely an update to the latest material style. That said, it would be nice to get some new features... I rely on this app to have a single phone number across devices, and I am worried it will eventually stagnate and get shut down #killedbygoogle

Has Google Voice call quality gone to crap on phones?

I've been trying to get calls on my OnePlus NordN20 5g, and yeah it don't care where I am or what connection I have, the calls are full of 'static'.

If you're looking for a Google Voice alternative that works across browsers and apps, give JMP a try. You interact with the service through a bot, so the actual service is accessible, it just depends on the #XMPP client you use. I personally recommend Miranda NG on Windows, but it is a great way to have multiple VOIP phone numbers and not give out your real number.

One thing to note. If you want to close your account, you need to contact support, so I wouldn't try this unless you are really sure you wanna keep it or at least use it for a long time. While customer service will delete you with no fuss, still, I wish there was a self delete option.
