There has been a resurgence of people using #gopherspace which is cool because it has always been there for anybody to use and I like the simplicity.

I was planning to start using it again and that's what happened this week and there is a lot of interesting people on #gopher and plenty going on.

The good thing about #gopherspace is that it's available just about anywhere 😎

It's true that there are far less #gopher servers online than #gemini servers.
As of today I can ping 380. Of course that only means there's something listening on Port 70. I don't download the / of each server and check for its "gopherness^ ;)
It's small but its #simplicity is what I like about it.

The last credible window of opportunity I recall for rebooting #gopherspace was right before the birth of smartphones, when dumb phones had a bit of connectivity but limited graphics and no qwerty keyboards.

Hands up if you remember the #Gopher #protocol used back in the day to render hierarchical text data across the early #Internet. I remember using #GopherClients to access university library records to find articles and books. It really was handy even after the #WorldWideWeb was a thing. And it still has a place in extreme situations where #bandwidth is highly limited.

It works great. Navigate the cursor to within the item description for items you wish to follow. There is also elpher-back.
A slight mystery: I believe that itemtype 1 and itemtype 7 are construed to be the same, but in elpher use 1 instead of 7 and just write in your QUERY_STRING yourself.
