The former Gorbals Public Library on Norfolk Street in Glasgow. Designed by the Office for Public Works and opened in 1933. It had space for 30,000 books, including an annexe for foreign languages (with books of 40 different ones) and a lecture room which seats 240 people.

A distant relative died recently in her 90s. Another of the #Tomintoul diaspora. She came to #Glasgow in the 1950s and worked as a community midwife...in the #Gorbals. And yes she got about the #NoMeanCity streets on a bicycle. Respect 👊. She donated her midwife's bag
(something straight out of #MaryPoppins) to Glasgow Women's Library @womenslibrary... and a "string bag"...to use in weighing the bairns👶 🤣

Glasgow old and new: The Caledonia high flats, built in the 1960s (and due to be demolished soon) from the Southern Necropolis, opened in 1840.

New-builds on Old Rutherglen Road in Glasgow.

I'm aware these flats won't be everyone's cup of tea, but they do bring a bit of colour to the street. How they'll hold up over time is another matter.

Here is Mary, a 16 YO bakery worker. Mary’s future – like the salt on the Sifta packet – was pouring away: “futility and frustration stretch ahead her dreams are losing their battle against reality”.
