I watched #GorillasInTheMist for the first time tonight. The screenwriters lost me within the first ten minutes, when #DianFossey refused to go anywhere until she was allowed to bring her hair dryer, nail polish, and make up into the rain forest. And the portrayal of the local Rwandans…Yikes. #cinema

Definitely #GorillasInTheMist by#DianFossey. I wonder if they also #repair their #communicative interactions @dingemansemark

@twt @rayckeith Totally agree!
I've had the great privilege of visiting the place mentioned in the original post, Volcanos National Park in Rwanda. Went on a hike up a mountain with guides to see the Highland Gorillas there. They're absolutely amazing. They live in an extended-family group with individuals of all sizes and ages.
Some were acting playfully and trying to get our attention, but others were clearly keeping a wary eye on us (even though we were keeping at a safe and respectful distance) in case they needed to step-in to protect the group from strangers.
I was on the tail-end of the group, and as we were leaving, I saw a Silverback who'd been quite defensive-looking had positioned itself between its group and our group. It stretched and relaxed, and caught my eye to let me know it was seeing-off our group. It was a very human gesture, and made it plain to see how closely related gorillas and humans are.
