I'm done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I followed it loyally since the first Iron Man, but Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was the last hurrah for me.

Following the continuity any further will force me to watch Quantumania, and I'm just not going to do it. The Eternals was bad enough. Those wankers are never getting to abuse my eyeballs or intelligence again.

#GotG3 was much better than I expected. Chukwudi Iwuji was fricking amazing. I loved his performance.

I finally watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. It's okay. It's a little too corny and that kind of humor kind of wears thin. Also, they really go overboard with the pop music insertions. It gets obtrusive for me. What I really want to know, however, is why is Adam Warlock such a stupid, dopey idiot? I don't remember him like this in the comics. #GotG3

So who did #JamesGunn blow to get an actual CGI budget on #GotG3? Wild. I felt like I was watching pre-Endgame #MCU. Though it definitely should have been 45 minutes shorter.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 might be my favorite entry in this trilogy. The story has big stakes but at its core is deeply personal. High Evolutionary is easily one of my favorite MCU villains just for how purely evil he is. It's a perfect send off for this crew and if we get new entries with the new crew that's teased, I'd totally be into that. Cosmo is a good, good dog and deserves to be told that, as often as possible.

People can call it super hero fatigue as much as they want. But the reality of the situation is that people are just not liking mediocre movies. #GOTG3 and #spiderverse are doing amazingly with great reviews.

The Flash, seemingly, is just a bad movie. (I have yet to see it. Doubt I will)

Thoughts on the overall thing: Definitely made me sad a bit, good and bad.

Star Lord: A fitting end, also 👑 for the first f-bomb of the MCU. also lol he's returning, very good.

Rocket: I see why PETA approves of GOTG3.

Gamora: Well rounded.

Nebula: It broke me when she cried for Rocket.

Drax: It was nice seeing him be more than humourous.

Mantis: Still a master manipulator, very sad that she separated from Drax 😭

Adam Warlock: Nice to see him joining the Guardians.

GOTG3: Damn was it good. It reminded me of Thor L&T in some ways, but way, way better in implementation.

Seemed very James Gunn to me, that's what made it special.

We saw GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 last night and man, so much to say. (Possible #SPOILERS ahead.) There are a lot of angles you could take on this one but first and foremost, the Rocket backstory. It's painfully sad. Could be rough on little kids. Hell, it was rough on me. Some folks have bandied about the notion that the #GuardiansOfTheGalaxy trilogy is the best one in comic book cinema…certainly the best within the #MCU. I think they may be onto something.

I just saw #GotG3 and it's spectacular. Easily as good as the first one and better than the second one (IMHO).

Who knew I could get so choked up about a damn space raccoon? 😅

(Also definitely worth seeing in theaters. The VFX is awesome.)

I just realized the plot of #GOTG3 is literally Rocket surgery.

Went to see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 #gotg3 in the cinema yesterday. I don't really do MCU movies anymore but I liked the first and second movies so I wanted to close the chapter so to speak.

I was not prepared for the body horror, implied animal abuse and casual lethal violence including from the good guys (the Guardians stab, slash, shoot a lot of people near the end).

There were plenty of funny and humorous moments, and it was a good movie, with emotional moments and spectacular scenes. The music was great, and the weird space opera setting remains fantastic. Pacing was very fast and sometimes chaotic, but every character gets to shine and the acting generally was very good.

Still, I really felt the general vibe was a lot darker than movies 1 & 2. There were young kids in the audience and I felt uneasy about that. A couple of scenes in particular I can definitely imagine being potentially traumatizing for a sensitive 12yo. I think maybe if I had been there with a kid that young I might have walked out. Really felt like a 16+ film.

Anyway: good movie, nice ending to the trilogy, don't take your kids, abolish animal testing, eat vegan.

Weekend report: Went largely AFK from Friday until this afternoon. After calls finished on Friday, I headed out to a second viewing of the "Guardians of the Galaxy", then coming home to watch "Beef" on Netflix with the missus.

Saturday was mostly spent doing yard work and cleanup around the complex before heading out to NY/NJ this Tuesday. Finished "Beef" last night. (It goes into solid A24 territory toward the end.)
