I have set up a (non-federating) #GoToSocial instance for friends and am always in hearing other people's experience. If you have admin thoughts on how things are going in the next time, I would be interested to hear them!

its still not clear though what kind of social network will be the focus of the project. hopefully not another twitter clone.

I have a new #GoToSocial #ActivityPub server that so far is running very well. Instead of two Raspberry Pi W boards on the chair next to me, this time I'm using an #AlmaLinux 9 VPS in the Oracle Cloud Free Tier.

Seems to be that way. Lots of moving parts, lots of complexity.

That is why #GotoSocial looks so exciting. It's almost as dead simple as #Syncthing.

@deltatux Im waiting for #gotosocial to leave alpha and add more features. Also, didn't know firefish was better for single users, what is the difference?

@jpain Yeah, It just feels like wasted electricity to have such a heavy software running for a single user. There are other options like #gotosocial which are designed for small instances, but this one is still in alpha

I built a second #GoToSocial #Fediverse server, this time on a VPS instead of RaspberryPi Zero W's. I'm hoping the server is better able to run GtS than the Pi, which became unresponsive at regular intervals.

So I went from a pair of Pi's with RPi's version of #Debian to an #AlmaLinux server on the #OracleCloud free tier. This is an experiment, so I'm hoping for the best in terms of Oracle not randomly killing the VPS.

I haven't set up GtS beyond the testing stage, so it's not live just yet.

i think once being able to subscribe to domain blocklists come to #gotosocial i will actually spin up an instance to play around with it and help bug test while its being developed. that's kinda the barrier for entry for me personally at this point

Next, it would be nice to fix #FireFish (it accepts but doesn't seem to process `Accept[Follow]` messages) and test #Akkoma and #Pleroma

@musicmatze #mastodon (and everything else in the ecosystem like #takahe #elk #gotosocial #tusky ) needs to implement support for Articles so that a Mastodon user can follow a #writefreely user.

For anyone in the know, what benefits does #GoToSocial have over #Mastodon and #Firefish ? I have never heard of it

Even though #gotosocial is super slow and methodical in their development. Their upgrade process is fantastic. Just rip and replace the binary and your off to the races! It was beautiful

I shut down https://wisc.rocks. I never figured out how to create a non-admin user on #GotoSocial and I am already putting a lot of time and money into https://toot.works. If I find a way of bringing back https://wisc.rocks, I'm going to, but #GoToSocial was always more of an experiment than anything else.

Hosting for the #Mastodon instance has been averaging $19/mo and hosting for Wisc.rocks was going to be €3/mo.
