Die #GoTransit Züge haben einen sehr engen Sitzabstand und dazu sind die nebeneinander liegenden Sitze durch eine Plexiglasscheibe getrennt. Hinzu kommt die Heizungsleiste im Fußraum - die Fensterplätze fühlen sich sehr beengt an.

Beim Anfahren gibt die Diesellok eine Rauchwolke von sich. Vorortverkehr mit 12 Doppelstockwagen... das Planerherz verlangt nach Elektrifizierung. #GoTransit

Ansonsten liegt die Bahnsteighöhe bei gefühlt Null Millimeter über Schienenoberkante. Jetzt gibt es auch den ersten Kontakt mit der zweiten Amtsspreche Kanadas.

In Burlington heißt es dann umsteigen in den Vorortzug von #GoTransit. Die Dimensionen sind nicht schlecht: 12 Doppelstockwagen fahren auf der #LakeshoreWest Line. Auch das Design mit den Rhombus-artigen Wagen hat was für sich. Für Mobilitätseingeschränkte gibt es eine kleine Bahnsteigerhebung, wo man dann an genau einer Tür mittels immer wieder manuell gelegter Rampe in den Wagen kommt.

Auf geht es mit dem restlos besetzten #GoTransit Expressbus Richtung Toronto. Über den Eriekanal und durch die kanadische Weinanbaulandschaft. Hinein in den Stau, so dass der Busfahrer mit einer Umfahrung auf einer Parallelstraße versucht hat, die Verspätung zu begrenzen.

Am nächsten Tag geht es dann endgültig nach Kanada. Die #NiagaraFalls sprudeln so sehr, dass eine Wolke gen Himmel steigt. Nach dem Grenzübertritt mit diesmal nur halbstündiger Wartezeit geht es auf einer zum Fußweg ausgebauten alten Bahnstrecke zum Bahnhof. Der Zug nach Toronto fährt leider nur dreimal am Tag, daher nehmen wir die stündliche Busverbindung, die bis Burlington vorfährt. #GoTransit

Quite a lot of incompetence from #metrolinx. Looks like we have a whistle blower that decided to leak the emails to the press because they were unsatisfied how the incident was treated

Am in the quiet car in the train and the guys sat behind me are talking LOUDLY and obliviously, but I am too shy to say anything. I might just move. Wishing this was like Japan and there were conductors monitoring the aisles to aggressively shush people.

#CoolTrainTuesday on a Thursday, it's a GO Transit MP40PH-3C about to leave West Harbour, Hamilton, Ontario, to head to Toronto along the Lakeshore West Line. The GO Lakeshore West is the line I probably rode the most as a kid, and will always be my reference for "Cool Train".

This weekend I did some recon of Union station to see how bike friendly it is. Happy to report that it's much improved! Elevators operating to the platform level, and barrier free access to street level. The new concourses are complete, they're spacious and relatively simple to navigate.

Sadly the platforms are narrow as ever, including single-file paths around the stairwells and elevators. It's a bit uncomfortable, but achievable for many cyclists.

Last week I travelled from #Waterloo to #Toronto by, and I was a bit shocked that #PublicTransit was more expensive than driving.

Cost of #GoTransit : 17 CAD.
Cost of car: 10 CAD (my sedan consumes ~6 litres gas)

I think there should be some incentives for people to select #bus and #train instead of driving their own car when possible.

If the train is just a sub-optimal solution for those who don't have a car yet, #Hwy401 will just be more crowded no matter how many lanes we add.
