This sounds like an interesting campaign by the : has updated its terms and made it very unclear (on purpose?) what they do with your personal data like text, video and audio chats or your attachments. Will they use it to train their language models or will they only use it to feed their chicken?

Doesn't sound compliant to European data protection laws at all, but who knows ...

Their takeout seems to be broken as well.

They know my birthday and therefore my age but claim to not know in the downloaded data.

@matus_chochlik @neil agree. I work for a company providing Telematic related services and ECUs. This is happening to all vehicles, regardless of the type of engine. Often I need to push back car manufacturers requests to know more details about the trips. I'm glad about but horrified of what is happening outside Europe.

News item in NL: increasingly, campings use facial recognition systems as a door access system for their swimming pool. Colleague @xot and I are quoted, and are sceptical. I said: it could be organised in a GDPR-compliant way. But even if such a facial recognition system complies with the GDPR, I don't like it. It normalises surveillance. I'm in the video too. rtlnieuws.nl/nieuws/nederland/

@liztai I don't think policy has changed significantly.

I couldn't find any mention to “For example, we use publicly available information to help train Google’s AI models and build products and features like Google Translate, Bard, and Cloud AI capabilities.” in the policy text either.

However, that is beyond the point, because they have mounted a business based on scrapping people data and they need if for that purpose, so they are going to further that activity regardless of what their policies say.

It is like big oil saying that they really care about the environment, or banks saying that they are seriously fighting money laundry... they are after profits with a model that hurts others in their way... they may have some concerns about their negative impact on others, but their top priority will always be their profits... these are anti-social behaviors fueled by greed... which are part of our nature and in different degrees of everyone.

That is why we need regulation, or otherwise we go back to slavery and genocide.

Going back to Google and privacy, they are only 3 ways we can go about it IMHO:

1.- Never post, email or say anything you don't want them to use. A bit unrealistic, but really applicable for the things we really want or need to keep private.

2.- Post all our content along with a clear declaration of how we are licensing it, so it is legally clear how and what it can be used for. This is a lot easier in the than in central services, as we can control our own servers and therefore include all the required legal wordings.

3.- Sue them and fight them with activism and the laws and regulations of the territories where they operate, like in the EU, fraud and money laundry in the US, etc, every time they infringe or abuse, in order to make their anti-social behaviors more and more expensive through fines and jail time, so they are compelled to abide by the social norms/contracts.

@spodlife @GossiTheDog Indeed, I just checked in France and it seems that recording on public area is even not allowed by default. Here is an article from @CNIL : cnil.fr/fr/la-videosurveillanc

On top of this, if the records are actually uploaded to Tesla's servers, and if these are outside of Europe, it may be inconsistent with

@LeoElRojo I do not know either but looks from what I can guess although there are millions of websites, most of them use some popular plugin to show the popup instead of hand crafting it. That makes it easier for the like this to automate. But anyhow it is quite some hardwork and continuous effort from the developers 😊

Australians able to opt out of targeted ads and erase their data under proposed privacy reforms
amp.theguardian.com/australia-

This appears to be inspired by the GDPR protections in the EU without being a total copy and giving us the same level of protection.

Looks like the usual suspects are opposing this proposed improvement to privacy, transparency, and accountability: political advertising and big business represented by the Business Council of Australia.
