Well, #Mozilla did implement #OpenPGP & #PGP/MIME support via their own crypto library, NSS [Network Security Services] and thus you don't need to setup weird stuff like #Gpg4Win on #Windows, but just create or import your keys into #Thunderbird and it just works!
That reduced a lot of the complexity when setting up and explaining stuff, and I think @cryptoparty will agree...

@mxmehl @harald I'd recommend using a different tool for #emails and #Outlook for everything else which is #groupware related.
If you can install your own software, you can try #Thunderbird. They got much worse after re-implementing #OpenGPG by themselves but it's still much better than Outlook, especially when #Gpg4win is involved otherwise.

Today we celebrate 25 years of GnuPG. 🪩
We take this opportunity to announce the availability of GnuPG version 2.4.0 and #Gpg4win 4.1.0 . See https://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-announce/2022q4/000477.html
and https://gpg4win.org
The binary releases come with an updated Libksba due to a security bug.
Today it is to celebrate 25 years of #GnuPG 🎉 a #FreeSoftware implementation of the '#OpenPGP and #CMS standards for #endtoendcrypto . For this GnuPG 2.4.0 is announced and #Gpg4win 4.1.0, see https://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-announce/2022q4/000477.html and https://lists.wald.intevation.org/pipermail/gpg4win-announce/2022/000099.html

Upgrade #Gpg4win (contains #GnuPG) to version 4.0.4 for fixing a critical defect (CVE-2022-3515)! It is important that you do, as there can be attacks from remote to gain control of your computer. See https://lists.wald.intevation.org/pipermail/gpg4win-announce/2022/000098.html Technical Advisory: https://www.gnupg.org/blog/20221017-pepe-left-the-ksba.html #Security #FreeSoftware #OpenPGP #EndtoEndSecurity.

As #GnuPG user, get v2.2.36 (LTS), v2.3.7 or a fix from your GNU/Linux distribution! There is a nasty defect when transferring the verification status of a signature to the using application. With preconditions a signature can be forged.

#Gpg4win is just jumping two little numbers from 4.0.0 to 4.0.2, but there is a lot in store for users. The (expert) GUI Kleopatra got many detailed improvements and the crypto backend. See https://www.gpg4win.org/change-history.html

#Gpg4win 4.0.0 is a major upgrade of the official #GnuPG build for Microsoft Windows. Coming with the modern GnuPG 2.3 line for the first time. GnuPG provides a future-ready foundation for the secure exchange of data and mails over the next years, by implementing the upcoming draft of the #OpenPGP protocol and making the switch to better default algorithms. https://www.gpg4win.org/version4.html #EndtoEndCrypto #OpenPGP #OpenStandard #FreeSoftware

#Gpg4win 3.1.16 can be downloaded. A mixed bag of little, but important fixes and improvements for personal and organisational use, like for encrypted files. Comes with #GnuPG 2.2.28 LTS. https://www.gpg4win.de/change-history.html https://lists.wald.intevation.org/pipermail/gpg4win-announce/2021-June/000092.html File and email #EndToEndCrypto OpenPGP/MIME and S/MIME for MS Windows #FreeSoftware

#Gpg4win 3.1.15 is available. Features system wide config with #GnuPG. Allows Active Directory as internal keyserver. Improvements to Outlook-Addin and to smartcard support. https://www.gpg4win.org/get-gpg4win.html https://lists.wald.intevation.org/pipermail/gpg4win-announce/2021-January/000091.html #FreeSoftware #EndToEndCrypto

#GnuPG v2.2.27 fixes a defect relevant for S/MIME on windows so expect a #Gpg4win release within a few days (It also has progress towards reproducable builds on windows.) https://dev.gnupg.org/T5234 #EndtoEndCrypto (GnuPG is a #FreeSoftware implementation for file and email based encryption and signatures).

#Gpg4win 3.1.14 released. Improves on non-ASCII filenames and paths (which fixes a regression for account names). Betterments for smartcards and display of plain text mails in GpgOL. https://lists.wald.intevation.org/pipermail/gpg4win-announce/2020-November/000090.html https://gpg4win.org #FreeSoftware #EndToEndCrypto #GnuPG

#GnuPG 2.2.24 does an important step to internationalise on Windows, because it fixes a regression and allows unicode filenames and paths (in many places). I expect #Gpg4win to follow with a new release soon. (Of course #GnuPG 2.2.24 comes with a number of maintenance fixes making things more consistent and secure in the long run.) "GnuPG 2.2.21 and 2.2.22 (and Gpg4win 3.1.12) has an array overflow, leading to a crash or possibly unspecified other impact, when a victim imports an attacker's OpenPGP key, and this key has AEAD preferences. The overflow is caused by a g10/key-check.c error. NOTE: GnuPG 2.3.x is unaffected. GnuPG 2.2.23 is a fixed version."

#GnuPG 2.2.23 fixes a critical security defect of 2.2.21. and 2.2.22 (contained in #Gpg4win 3.1.12) (CVE-2020-25125). So if you are using the mentioned versions and import other pubkeys, upgrade your GnuPG or follow the alternative instructions https://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-announce/2020q3/000448.html https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2020-25125
#Gpg4win version 3.1.12 got released on the 24th of July. One security issue fixed. A number of improvements to the Outlook-Add-in, the next version of the stable GnuPG crypto backend and a bit to better the expert tool Kleopatra. https://www.gpg4win.de/change-history.html #FreeSoftware #EndtoEndSecurity
