GeoClue 2.7.1 is out!

The most prominent feature in this release is priority sources by @kop316. In practice this means that locations from inaccurate sources do not get through when #GNSS / #GPS is running, improving the user experience on high-resolution use cases like navigation.

In other words, when it is said a map/routing app runs offline on your phone, this means it is able to work resembling a handheld dedicated #GPS equipment, with no connection to the Internet, i.e. no cell towers nor Wi-Fi: it just uses satellite location and maps previously downloaded to the device for on-the-go navigation.

The first thing to do after installing is downloading maps for the area you want to use. That's it.

And since the #EU not only bans #anonymous #SIM cards (from domestic providers ofc, otherwise they'd brick roaming like Turkey does for every device longer than 30 days (based off IMEI & IMSI), you basically have a mandtory #GPS #Tracker on everthing that is legally a #Car and made after 01/2017.

@organicmaps is a carefully well designed app, using monthly updated data from @openstreetmap . If you do not need advanced features or lots of customized options, just a smooth map with pretty fast user experience and simple, straight to the point offline navigation, it is a very strong option that respects your privacy and your freedom.

Grazie al voto all'unanimità del #Consiglio #regionale, anche in #Veneto arriva la "#scatolanera" per le #auto con più di dieci anni. Per chi non sapesse di cosa si tratta, è un dispositivo che tutti i possessori di veicoli euro 0, 1, 2, 3 e 4 dovranno far installare sul proprio mezzo (naturalmente a proprie spese) per poter circolare sulle strade della regione malgrado le limitazioni.

💡 Suite à quelques recherches dans les param. de l'appli #GPS #Android #OSMand dont je disais qu'elle mettait bcp de temps à calculer les itinéraires, j'ai trouvé une solution dans les options de dev. : Augmenter la RAM utilisée pour les calculs d'itinéraires (valeur très basse par défaut). C'est pas encore rapide comme l'éclair, mais j'ai constaté un net changement ! 🚀

Y a des gens qui font de longues randonnées à vélo et qui planifient eux même leur trajet/trace ? C'est quoi vos astuces ? Moi j'utilise BRouter. Quand j'ai fait Mon Neuilly sur Marne -> Macon j'ai eu quelques passages chiant. Dans le Morvan où pour me faire éviter un petit bout de départementale (qui n'était pas si passent que ça), je rentrais dans un bled plutôt que de le contourner, ce qui voulait dire se tapper un putain de raidar :( #randonnéevélo #gps #gpx #brouter

Le module drotek RTK coûte encore un peu cher par rapport au récepteur GNSS "commun".
Il faut un peu d'huile de coude électronique/informatique pour mettre à jour les firmwares et configs des composants.
Plus une ou deux petites soudures, un boitier imprimé en 3D, un téléphone android et l'appli kivabien, and voilà !

💡 Bon, j'essaye difficilement de me convaincre d'adopter l'application #OSM #OpenSource #OSMand comme appli principale de #navigation #GPS. Je reconnais que cette application est très riche et puissante, mais :
- la #cartographie très moche, difficile à lire, et peu fluide en comparaison de #OrganicMaps
- il y a bcp trop d'options, donc cette appli a le défaut de sa qualité
- les calculs d'itinéraires souvent très lents, voire impossible dans certains cas
Qu'en pensez-vous ? 🤔
