Alright, alright, we did that thing with #graalvm Now calling prism.js via Truffle, adding the style classes to the <code> blocks in the backend.

This stuff is amazing 😍

I have a #JVM based application which renders content from a headless CMS. The last bit of JavaScript it uses is for syntax highlighting the <pre> blocks after rendering, it adds CSS classes to the keywords, identifiers, and so on

Does anybody know of a library for the JVM / for #Java which could do this on the server side? It would be a nice excuse to run that JS library in #GraalVM, maybe, but I'd prefer a simpler solutin

Using Oracle #GraalVM 20.0.2+9.1 in my local for building microservice project, I must say build is far more stable, it used to freeze my laptop and taking like 10 minutes now it is 6 minutes. And one more good news it recommends some extra parameters for the build. Probably in time these will go enabled automatically 🤞

@voidcontext JVM's memory usage is actually not bad if you use newer GCs. Shenandoah releases memory back, and if you custom-build your Docker image, you can have a simple web server running in ~60 MB. Anything you add on top would also consume about the same memory in Go. Compared with other platforms, JVM processes can be fat and do many things concurrently.

#GraalVM native-image is also available, a PITA to set up, but works, and newer Java frameworks get built for it.

In case you missed it, the #GraalVM team released a new version yesterday with lots of great news: new distribution and better licensing, nice performance improvements, native image bundles, build reports (very nice!) and more. Check it out!
