Long.
Gradually slipping sideways through days, I tiptoe between seconds, holding my breath. A step wrong, a hand held wrong, a voice pitched just off and everything, everything is going to break. There's an elemental inside my bones and it's kicking relentlessly, determined to get out. I know, I tell it. I am searching for a place where you are safe. I have to shrug out of the clock to do this. Breathe at the edges of things.
Daylight spreads gradually and I take fleeting moments of morning to call the light. I need to stop the flood, I say. I need to keep the dam intact. I can hear the outlines around me. I feel like I can hear it when they jangle because of me but I don't know.
Gradually I can unfold. Not all at once, and careful at first. To stretch, kneel, lift, stay upright. It's not just a thing of slowness but of cadence. Balance. Often, quiet.
When the sun recedes I call the night. I need to keep it safe, I say. The first thing it's going to do is hurtle headlong in panic, get hurt and who knows who else. I need stillness and a cloak. Slow at first. Llooking around, catching the edge of the light.
Timelyssly twilight greets me, our old friend, one who gave us shelter and freedom, the last environment we could see clearly in, many of us live there as much as we can, praise it and make art for it. Give this one room to run, I ask it. The point I circle back to, the only home for someone who doesn't know what home is. I have held on too long and I was trying to carry you from the cliff you'd been stranded on and only scared you in the process. And the one left I could think to ask was
You deserved more than this, more than tumbling into a tangle of rusty metal, for more than someone squeezing the life out of you, for more than a silent terrified end curled in a ball somewhere, forgotten.

Gradual hope
People, step by step,
Understand that they cannot
escape climate change
Mankind, soon or late
Will learn to communicate
About this crisis
Humans, without doubt
Will face their feelings of fear
And find better ways
Survival, of course
Has a new dimension now
But we will face it.

#Gradual|ly, I move to higher grounds. From afar, hell looks like a #glen. For a moment, I #riddle, could I have controlled its #chaos? Then, my inner #child takes my hand and walks me to the #flower|ing field ... on.

On St Stephen's feast day, St Edith Stein pauses to write to a former student; she explains the vocation “to suffer with Christ and thereby to cooperate with him in his work of salvation.”

Just watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmF7HpU_-9k&list=LL&index=1&t=1001s and I'm extremely tempted to make Rust gradual using linters.
For example, the "rust for newbs" linter can notice you wrote a struct that holds references and go "Take it easy, that's advanced! You'll have a bad time. Consider owning the thing or using Rc/Arc. Clone if you need to."
