For this week's #ThrowbackThursday, remembering a gorgeous old #gramophone I saw at a fleamarket in a small town in #Croatia.

The guy was asking 90 EUR for it, which I didn't have on me at the time. It was a hot day and I was cranky and nervous, so I didn't bother haggling for it.

Over ten years later, here I am, still thinking about it... 🤔

This is a very very hastily made recording describing my 1930s windup Decker 50 gramophone and I play a record on it as well.
I try and describe it as best I can and probably not great.

Apparently you can clean 78s with WD-40. I'd not tried it before, but I have one record that was so dirty it just wouldn't play - dirt puts more drag on the needle, and the spring motor isn't as powerful as an electric one, so it just ground to a halt after two or three rotations. My normal cleaning method of soapy water and a toothbrush didn't help, so I tried the WD-40... and sure enough, it plays perfectly now! #gramophone #RetroTech #records #music

It's the first #horn in a sextet of strange beasts that will hopefully get an outing before the end of year - watch this space! #BrassBand

I love this time of year, when all the 'best of the year' lists start coming out. They're a boon to me because, quite honestly, I'm hopeless at keeping track of such things.
