The thing about going thru #GrandCentralMadison is I end up in parts of the legacy #GrandCentral that I don't normally traverse.
Peep this old-school departure board near Track 40!

For all its flaws, #GrandCentralMadison has allowed me to take the π to work on office days much more often than in time past.
We still have a ways to go as far as transit improvements go, from #6MinuteService on the NYC subway to #RegionalRail on MNR/LIRR.

Absurd take on #GrandCentralMadison the over engineered boondoggle sucking cash out of #MTA transit for #subways #buses #nyc https://www.timeout.com/newyork/news/let-me-tell-youthe-new-grand-central-madison-will-be-great-once-there-are-enough-trains-030823

In examining the rage over the #GrandCentralMadison fiasco, I think about how the LIRR was originally supposed to use some of the 100-level tracks at Grand Central before agency turf-war bullshit led to MTA building an entirely separate cavern and concourse.
The cherry on top of the spicy cake, if you will.
The question remains: will politicos and agencies learn the right lessons from this? Will it lead to better inter-agency cooperation and a willingness to actually INCREASE TRANSIT SERVICE?
Morning, transit tooters! π
The #TrainTime app doesn't list connecting trains at #GrandCentralMadison departing within about 15 minutes of each other. One of my options for a connection departs less than 15 minutes after a scheduled MNR arrival and is not shown on TrainTime, but I can make that connection since it takes me about 5 minutes to descend to the GCM tracks. (Schedule padding helps too!)

I can get used to not having to hop-skip-and-jump to Penn anymore! ππ

Things I don't like at #GrandCentralMadison
- that the MTA is still operating its commuter railroads as commuter railroads and treating them as two separate systems
Give me S-Bahn now.
Things I like at #GrandCentralMadison:
- the LIRR route map on digital signage
- the art
- even the NYC local patriotic messages
Went to Grand Central Terminal to check out the new Long Island Rail Road station that was 50 years in the making π

#GrandCentralMadison is nice, and yes, it's deep. (Also, that long escalator IS steep β stare long enough and it looks like you're going straight up!) I can imagine GCM getting much busier once full service begins, based on the amount of people I saw running to catch peak-fare shuttles.
Didn't take pix because I know I'll be back β especially when full service begins.
For those traveling to #GrandCentralMadison from #LIRR territory, note that Penn Station tickets are VALID for use in GCM β at least initially. Found this out via the TrainTime app itself, when it directed me to an existing Penn ticket when trying to buy a ticket to GCM. Here's an article from the NY Post that mentions this: https://nypost.com/2023/01/24/grand-centrals-lirr-terminal-to-finally-open-wednesday/

super cool experience taking the 1st LIRR train to #grandcentralmadison aka βGCMβ, and even caught the splendid Gov. Kathy Hochul as a bonus! #MTA #HappyWednesday

#GrandCentralMadison opens tomorrow!
π
...reverse-peak service starts too late, ends too early
π€¨
...runs no more than 2 TPH, full service at least 3 weeks away
π
...useless for current work commute until service ramps up

Two weeks left to the year β will #GrandCentralMadison actually open by then?
