Visit at #grandma yesterday was rather short, since I left earlier after her starting to thank me for coming and wishing me a good week for the second time within 15 minutes. She looked present, even recognized me, but didn't know anything at all to say about the three questions I had planned to ask her. It more felt like she couldn't access the part of her memory at all, instead of not remembering the particular detail. Maybe it was the heat, maybe it's better next week. We'll see.

Today I learned that #grandma's friend from her twenties had passed away. She visited her a few years ago, but that one unfortunately wasn't herself anymore already. She had a camera back then and took photos. There was an album, which somebody from my family had borrowed+scanned (in thumbnail size, so I had no chance of asking grandma about the people on it). I always wanted to get it again to scan it properly. Now my parents were there and apparently received it as a gift for me. #genealogy

Visit at #grandma was a bit difficult, we spent a lot of time in silence (which still felt comfortable to both) and she told me about one event with her cousin, that I hadn't heard before. Same cousin I found on a soldier cemetery at #FindAGrave and when I asked where the additional information came from, I received a scan from the cemetery book with his record. #genealogy

Visit at #grandma could have been better this week. She was pretty ok with hearing and talking, but I was very tired and had pain in my neck. Probably a mixture of coding too much for #WikiTree 🐝 in the last days, sleeping bad and change in weather. Still created some 200 MB of recordings, but this time some are with a lot of silence.

#grandma doctor visit this week was a waste of time, because the nursery home forgot to put drops in her ears to prepare her for the cleaning operation. The next day the doctor even came to her, but didn't get that much out. It was still a little easier to talk to her today. She made jokes and I even heard stories about two previously completely unknown boyfriends. And I have it all on (virtual) tape 😀

Finally implemented cloud #backup for my audio interviews with #grandma and others. Two hard-disks in the same drawer are simply too risky, even if those are 8 GB of data more now on my #ownCloud. Would be bad enough to lose the house to a fire, but these recordings are among the most precious and valuable things that I have!

#grandma was doing pretty ok today, apart for her hearing being really terrible (we're working on it!). Once I managed to sit on the other side of the bed, I was able to funnel talk with her. Then I just made HER talk, so it would be easier for both of us. Today she told me, what she would have wanted to become, if she had been born a boy. She was fully aware that I record her and completely fine with it.

Managed to wake up #grandma, she recognized me (after some attempts) and then we managed to talk for almost an hour. I spoke loud into her ear while forming a funnel with my hands again. That worked quite well, except for a few sentences. Hopefully we manage to organize having her ears rinsed/cleaned soon. We also laughed together and I recorded her stories, like usual.

When #grandma then was finally in bed, she was able to think of other things and we were (kind of) able to talk (with my newly developed yelling skill). I even managed to ask her another question that I had noted down and received a plausible answer. Pretty happy, that the rest of last week's cemetery has to wait a week at least.

Visit at #grandma was a roller coaster. First I found her uncovered laying somehow wrong in her bed. After getting help, she managed to convince them to put her in the wheelchair, only to beg to be put back into bed, but they were too scared she would fall from it, since she was so restless. She kept begging and I managed to convince them, to put her in bed and enable all four "rolling out barriers". Plus side: At least I learned that using hands as funnel when yelling into her ear reaches her.

Visit at #grandma was very short today. I didn't manage to wake her up at all, but told her a bit about my life and my genealogy progress anyway. After some ten minutes another relative came (who was perfectly aware that I visit her EVERY SUNDAY AFTERNOON). I "handed her over", told him to say "hello" in case she wakes up and went off, in order to update the photographs for a cemetery I photographed in 2018 for @Compgen. Maybe there's more luck next week - or more cemetery.
