Hmm, going to try to make #grape fruit leather. Will have a lot of grape juice as a result. (fruit leather uses the pulp, not juice). Still have plenty of #wine (and grapes) from the last harvest... 🤷

There aren’t many things like the shade of a #grape #vine. #Vitis americana, variety unknown. Rogue, since supposedly it shouldn’t be allowed to bear fruit. However, people still eat it and make homemade #wine with it, against public health recommendations.

Update on the #grape juice having now tasted it:
- it's very opaque with higher viscosity than I was expecting. It looks pretty indistinguishable from blood 😂
- it has an intense flavour, more bitter than I expected. Not dissimilar to unsweetened grapefruit juice.
- I was unsure at first but it has grown on me after 4 glasses. Quite a nice breakfast drink to wake the mouth up
- next batch I may dilute very slightly and add a small quantity of sugar, but dont think it'll need much

#Israeli forces uproot 2,000 olive trees in the West Bank

"Israeli forces on Monday uprooted and destroyed some 2,000 olive trees in the #Palestinian village of Qarawat Bani Hassan in the northern occupied West Bank, according to local media.

"Ibrahim Assi, the mayor of Qarawat Bani Hassan, said soldiers stormed al-Awarid, an area north of the village, declared it a closed military zone, then proceeded to bulldoze the area, of around 300 dunams (o.3 square km), in an operation that lasted for more than five hours.

"Assi said Israeli forces destroyed stone walls, 'stole the olive trees they uprooted", and sprayed chemical #pesticides over #olive, #grape and #almond saplings.

"The olive harvest season, which runs between October and November, is a lifeline for 80,000 to 100,000 Palestinian families in the occupied West Bank."

I have tiny food!! A tiny Uralskiy Ranniy #tomato, some #grape buds, and baby red #currants. And it’s #California #Poppy Day here!
We’ve been in Washington for about two years, and the ten years we spent in California seem more and more like a memory of fairyland. The crazed tech wealth in SF, the unbelievable beauty of the redwoods, a thousand-plus miles on my mare all over the state, apocalyptic wildfires, the best produce money can buy anywhere you turn. The way the state explodes into the greenest green you can imagine, and then the orange of the #poppies spreads out in waves. I’m so glad this place has poppies.

Two inedible shrubberies didn’t survive the winter. Today I picked up a red #currant for one of their holes, and transplanted my baby #grape to the other hole.I’m excited about the currant - I’ve never had them, even as jam, lol.
I impulse bought the grape last summer, as one does. It was the last sad grape-stick by the checkout at the orange hardware megastore, and when I picked it up and saw it was a Himrod I couldn’t stop giggling, so home it came. Himrod! That’s what a himbo would call his 🍆 in texts!
Anyway, I plopped it in a decaying wine barrel planter by the barn. So I uprooted it, very much against its will, and discovered a layer of plastic plant pots at the bottom of the wine barrel. That’s my current infuriating pet peeve. Don’t hide your trash in the dirt like a fucking redneck!
Anyway, the pots are gone and I’m thinking of putting a tomato in the barrel. I bet it’s got at least one more year in it!

We’ve still got lots of colourful Spring flowers in the garden, so I took a few snaps during a sunny spell before the next band of April downpours hit.

So exciting! We just heard from the TTB and have received federal approval of the 14th and final #grape in the #Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape collection: #Muscardin. As is normal with these petitions, the final approval will come when it's entered into the congressional record along with other newly-approved grapes sometime in the next few years. But please welcome Muscardin as the 348th approved grape for use in American wine!
