I haven’t shared an outline yet, but this is like draft number 29 of the TOC for Exploring Graph Theory with Julia:

Part 1: “Pure” graph theory
1. What is a graph?
2. Telling graphs apart
3. Drawing graphs

Part 2: “Applied” graph theory
4. Graphs and maps
5. Graphs and industry
6. Graphs and games
7. Graphs and music
8. Graphs and the universe
9. Graphs and knowledge

Part 1 is almost mapped out and ready to be drafted!

How will global networks change due to

Interesting paper by Johanna Hedlund et al.: iopscience.iop.org/article/10.

I like their simply approach using . This means they can look at this without making any major assumptions and thus isolate the pure effect of climate change.

@Urban_Hermit It is a pity that the algorithms, among them and , which were the primary building block of Page & Brin's empire, are now reduced to a mere cherry scent on big, commercial, ad-based revenue-generating cake 😒

We were using these algorithms during our lectures, as simple, yet surprizingly powerful tools.

@bbolker In this specific case (& more generally) what about:

* network-informed citation metrics such as a centrality measure [1].

* On a social front, considering representative papers from PIs that have produced disproportionate numbers of impactful mentees (i.e., assigning value to ).

* What voices have been traditionally excluded. E.g., ecologists may have unique outlooks on shared problems.

Latest research from my collaborators at , combining and : imperial.ac.uk/news/241354/spi

Traditional lasers amplify light by repeatedly passing it through a lasing medium between two mirrors. Instead, by structuring the lasing medium in the form of a network, we can choose which regions of the network to amplify. We can then use this freedom to select the colour emitted by the laser.

Survey and Taxonomy of Lossless Graph Compression and Space-Efficient Graph Representations

arxiv.org/abs/1806.01799

gives an impression overview of lossless graph compression methods from 3 different perspectives:
- research areas (what do people in your field use?)
- techniques (how the graph is compressed)
- features (what type of graph/property are the focus)

@ccppurcell finally, someone new is posting into 🎉
Nice work!

Btw, some tips about Mastodon:
- we try to use camelCase in hashtags here, for better readability and for screen-readers
- if you don't want to flood the local timeline, you can put all posts after the first one in "unlisted" mode (switch the 🌍 icon to 🔓 ) but know that only public (🌏 ) posts appear in hashtag searches, so all posts containing hashtags should be public, else the hashtag is useless (like mine above)

What kind of do we want for (and in general)?

The answer may vary depending on users and communities, but let's discuss where the new follow-recommendation tool of Mastodon 3.5 leads us (github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p).

The evolution of a network where new users preferentially follow existing influencers can be modeled as a Price/BA network.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barab%C3

You end up with few large influencers.
Honestly, I'm not a fan...

People have been using the clustering coefficient (CC) to characterize their favorite (weighted/directed or not) for a long time, but do we know how to best define it depending on the and question?

Our latest paper provides an overview of CC properties and interpretations, plus new fully directed and weighted definitions that we think should be useful in many fields.

I'm trying to increase its visibility by including it in my so I'd be happy to have feedback about it.
