Exciting news coming from Twisted Cedar Farm! We are hoping to have acquired more land to further expand our cattle/beef operation! If everything goes as planned we will be process almost double the amount of beef we did last year!

Our farm is currently home to:
🦆 12 ducks
🐓 14 chickens
🐕‍🦺 1 #borderCollie doggo
🐈 2 #barncats
👨🏼‍🌾👩🏼‍🌾 2 adult humans + 🙍🏼‍♂️1 homeschooled child (who is 10-ish) that splits his time between here and Texas

and lots of wildlife including:
- MANY, MANY deer
- foxes
- bobcats
- coyotes
- bear
- snakes & lizards
- rabbits
- so many birds
- mountain lion? (I haven't seen any signs personally but there are rumors)
- field mice
- etc

Some livestock I am hoping to bring to our land once we get better fencing:
- a family dairy cow or two
- a few steer to grow our own #grassfedbeef
- yaks
- llamas
- sheep
- a horse or two

We still have a lot of work ahead as we build out our farm infrastructure and improve the soil with #regenerativeFarming practices. Our main goal is to balance the needs of the land and its' wild inhabitants with our own needs and leave this place healthier & more abundant than we found it.

I chopped together some #ketovore meatloaf. It's 6lb #GrassFedBeef 1lb country sausage, ¾ cup bacon crumble, 6oz tomato paste, 12 eggs, 1 cup mozzarella shredded cheese, ¾ cup shredded sharp cheddar (on top). There is some spaghetti seasoning, salt and pepper. Bake 400° 60 minutes. Boom Family of 6 fed and happy.

happy #coosday! #Ruminant animal grazing is effective at building soil #carbon and #organic matter. poorer soils are often grazed rather than farmed (remember what we tried to do that created the dust bowl?) Missing here are riparian buffers (cattle fenced out of streams and reforested) and other soil conservation/water quality #bestpractices, especially in the #chesapeakebay watershed. #grassfedbeef and #timber is how we live here.

We are building a house out at our farm. Dan got the first bent and post carved out for the garage this week (after we collected the cows and got them back into the correct pastures ;0). He is a retired green builder … had to make him stop taking other houses so he could get to work on ours.
