#Drought and heat in the Jackson, #Mississippi area has stressed the grass at the Greenwood #Cemetery. The executive director explained that some graves become more visible as the grass turns brown in a rectangular shape where the grave is. Some of the #graves were so old that any markers that might have existed were gone, so the drought is helpful in locating unmarked graves.

We love our heroes. Heroes cannot argue with our hagiography because they are dead. What we can’t seem to do is love the survivors. Their physical traumas are obvious. Psychic traumas less so but manifest as depression, addiction, and homelessness. The trauma of survivors makes us uncomfortable. We would rather have them out of sight or in a grave. Then we can revere them.
