@meerlala Indeed! I wonder why the rich ceased to enjoy eating #eels in the #19thCentury - snobbery presumably?
& it is shocking how many foods then cheap enough for everyman have become #CriticallyEndangered.
🙏 @greenleejw for your fascinating insights into both history & ecological change - & your usual #GreatAltText!

@brusgaard I had the same question - & guessed quite wrongly about the location, fascinating!
I had looked first for explanatory #AltText. That's well worth adding on this site, expected as a courtesy to the many readers who can't see the images (due to impaired vision or slow internet). Many people will only boost posts which include AltText, & many of us look for additional explanation of interesting images. #GreatAltText can be an artform in itself! H/T @greenleejw
@stiofi
Follow @greenleejw for #GreatAltText as well as #eel #history - one for you @FediFollows?
(*Also to marvel at the historic importance of #eels & lament how few survive nowadays...)

More #GreatAltText (& entertaining main post), thanks @greenleejw for brightening my day!
@eemill I love this whole approach. Context is key! And I especially appreciate when experts point out details that are maybe obvious to them but a casual observer wouldn't realize are unusual, or typical, or illustrative of some key aspect of their personality or behavior. ❤️ #GreatAltText
@eemill I've learned so much from your image descriptions! Great shot and #GreatAltText (hmm, is there a better hashtag to use? Would love to highlight examples of good alt text, both for people who benefit from it as well as people who are trying to get more comfortable drafting image descriptions).
Ok here's my first example
(dang, I can't share the text because Alt Text can be longer than a post). This is SO much more descriptive than "foggy morning on a lake" Thank you!
