If you are curious, @atomicpoet and I have been friends for about 12 years now — since 2011.

@atomicpoet and I know each other because we created Hootsuite together —
what was at one time the most popular Twitter app. But later we (often me) added support for Facebook, LinkedIn, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, etc.

Fast-forward more than a decade, and now @atomicpoet and I are working together again — but now we are working on #GreatApe , #SpaceHost , and more.

First let me give credit where credit is due.

The person who created the #SpaceHost logo is — Chet Earl Woodside.

(He is a bit shy, so I won't tag him on here 🙂)

Creating logos isn't actually what he does for a living. Well, not anymore.

But we have been friends since he was in elementary school. Our parents used to live near each other when both of us were a lot younger. So he helped out.

Chet also created the #GreatApe logo.

We're talking to a lot of Fediverse devs.

The spirit right now is very much about camaraderie and cooperation.

Thanks to #ActivityPub someone could actually see and respond to my post from #Friendica, which is sort of a Fediverse #facebook

This happened to me the other day, and it's pretty pretty pretty neat. There's still a few glitches, but the interoperability of the #Fediverse ruins me from ever participating in another walled billionaire's garden.

@atomicpoet has been making the case better than I ever could, since he's currently developing 2 different services for the Fediverse.

This is why @reiver and I are spending so much time to build #GreatApe.

That will solve the live audio / video aspect of TikTok as well as similar services like Twitter Spaces.

But there's also lots of work that needs to be done on short form video content.

Yes, I know TikTok's appeal is the algorithm.

But I think we can build a nice, compelling alternative to TikTok that is free of TikTok's abuse!

Could you attach a live audio stream using the same endpoint? Thinking that would be handy when #GreatApe gets going.

The official Mastodon server actual has some fun animations that go along with audio attachments. I didn’t realize attaching images to the audio would work like it did in the conversation below if viewed from the official app.
