I finished the fantastic #Pulitzer nominated #memoir WHEN BREATH BECOMES AIR today in one gulp. It’s the story of Paul Kalanithi, a #neurosurgeon resident who finds out he has terminal cancer in his early 30s and writes about the process of dying over the last few months of his life.

Yes, it’s a sad book, but it is also chock full of revelations on the reality of the surgical profession, #compassion for others and oneself, and finding quality in a life with an expiration date. #GreatBook

I have just finished reading #LawrenceHill’s #TheBookofNegroes.” It won the #CommonwealthWritersPrize and #CBCRadio’s #CanadaReads in 2009. The book is riveting. It tells the story of a woman’s life from enslavement in Africa and North America to liberation. It’s a story of the #blackloyalists and the #abolitionists. I should have read it a long time ago. I’m happy I’ve read it now. #goodread #greatbook.

Last week, I finished #reading “A Ghost in the Throat” by Doireann Ní Ghríofa. It is the most unusual, beautiful prose. The author intertwines her experience with the story of a much celebrated 18th century Irish poem and its author. It was a Guardian Best Book of 2020. Profound in so many ways, I highly recommend it. #greatbook #goodread
