Just cried my way through the final of the #GreatBritishSewingBee. Such a lovely show. I don't know if it's the fact there's no prize except for the honour of winning, but the contestants all seem to be universally lovely.

I’ve become addicted to the #greatBritishSewingBee , thanks to someone on tootville reminding me it existed. I’m a beginner #quilter and am in awe of what the contestants on the show make in a short time. One episode they had to make a patchwork jacket and make the #patchwork first.

Well, last night I learnt about chintz which originated in India and how imported print #fabrics were banned in the early 1800s in Britain to try to save the British weaving industry. Of course, women found a way around the ban and made the most fabulous printed fabric clothes.

My family – and I, I suppose – are fans of The #GreatBritishSewingBee. It's a very sweet little program and in this house we're a makers, in a small way. My wife's costume skills are to be reckoned with.

But I do wish they wouldn't refer to the contestants as "sewers".
