I had a wonderful time attending the Lander University Film Festival last weekend. There were categories for high school, college, and general population entries. It was fun to see the creativity and technical prowess demonstrated by members of our community!

What struck me the most were how several of the HIGH SCHOOL entries contained matter-of-fact #LGBTQ themes. They showed a maturity on the subject that is lacking among many adults. I guarantee you that they were not "indoctrinated" at school.

It gives me hope that the up-and-coming generation will push out the old-guard mentality, the "moral elite", who see people as sinful and evil for being true to who they are.

Being competitive in these critical positions is essential. But one thing that I heard time and time again is how local law enforcement agencies, just like the one here in #GreenwoodSC, are constantly struggling to compete with the state LEO salaries. #SouthCarolina needs a more comprehensive approach to avoid cannibalizing the critical front line of the law.

I'm reflecting on a wonderfully successful Greenwood County Democratic Party convention on Saturday where I was reelected chair for the next 2 years.

Only in a local paper will you get such a heartwarming story about a tow truck operator - a story written for no other reason than to see your community from his point of view.

He didn't save a life. He didn't stumble on a treasure or reach a major milestone. He just had observations to share. And it made our front page. How wonderful!

I’ve seen my share of poverty; but, in general, it’s really upsetting to see it so close to home. You can’t judge. You’ve got to put yourself in other people’s shoes.”

Although I didn't win in the election, I take great satisfaction seeing that my billboard is still up right outside my opponent's law office.

I paid only through the first week of November, but I guess until they find a new buyer for the space they don't take it down. 🤷
