The operator "×" used in botany to write down names of hybrid plants is associative. But for orchids, a different system is used which does not have associativity.

It is with a semi-heavy heart that I share the imminent death of the already-zombie #Grex, an @SDF like free Unix service that ran for ages in Ann Arbor, MI.

I never used it, but I knew a guy who did. I moved to MI in 2000, when such a service was already functionally obsolete: Linux would run acceptably on a dozen year old, nearly free 386 PC, Media One had cheap broadband, and Grex forbade the use of screen. Email consolidation finished off its remaining usefulness.

This reminds me of the early days even prior to MySpace where our family used a server located in Ann Arbor called grex. We still have friends we met online then, to this day.
