Look at those #whiskers! Endowed with around 10 times the number of nerve endings as those of many land animals, they help grey seals navigate & locate food. They also have a wavy shape, bulging at intervals along their length like broad beans in a pod, enabling seals to detect fish up to 100 ms away.

This is my cliff top perch, high above the grey seal pupping beach that's close to my home in Pembrokeshire.
Over the years, I've spent so many hours and days watching grey seals give birth, suckle, mate and moult from this amazing spot. And so much of this research found its way into the pages of my new book, 'Where the Seals Sing'.
