Neurodivergent grief is not like neurotypical grief, in several ways

For instance, a lot of neurodivergent people found the social expectations of grieving difficult to navigate

The research here takes a trans diagnostic perspective, permitting co-occurring conditions, and values lived experience

It uses an eight-step approach to content analysis (Mayring 2022), and looks at social media posting (across six platforms) on loss: disenfranchised grief (378), bereavement, secondary loss, grieving things, Covid loss and pet loss (55)

Main way to cope with grief is taking time

2/n I moved to the East Village - one of the epicenters of the epidemic even within NYC - in 1979. I was 19. I came of age as a young gay man in all of that, through the 1980s and 1990s. I had my dark times. I'm amazed I survived.

One thing that doesn't get recognized and discussed enough is endurance trauma and Complex PTSD for those of us who survived.

💯 Noone was unaffected. And I appreciate that you didn't say that everyone was affected the same way. I just don't like to leave things out there that others less knowlegable might misinterpret as there are only ancestors, and not also elders, who have something to say about that time.

My dad, who passed away a few days ago, had a chest tattoo depicting an eagle flying infront of the sun. And while remembering this detail I began to draw and somehow the eagle turned into a phoenix holding the sun (egg)? Grieving is a curious thing.
