#today we just ended our cornfest 2023. Our total ears of #sweetcorn brought to the table from the #garden this season was 197. This is not bad but our third planting ended up a little disappointing because I did not manage to feed the last row of corn enough for a variety of reasons, but lesson is learned for next year! (If I count the 4 ears the squirrels stole we grew 201 ears) Oh, yes, we also have several tons of #tomatoes (lost count)

#today we put out to share, the last of our cukes, zukes, and sunburst squash. All the vines have now succumbed to either vine borers or bacterial wilt and are headed to their second life as compost for next year's mulching. They're chopped up and mixed with last years leaves and starting to cook down.

#today I was pleased that we are now able to continue our CornFest 2023. The third planting is now ready to begin harvesting. So far, between plantings 1 and 2 we have managed to bring 165 ears of #sweetcorn to the table. (Yes, we eat 99% of it ourselves. This is my reward to myself for all the garden labor.)

#today #BeetBear helped out by doing some berry picking in the drizzly morning #garden . He also decided it was time to inspect the third planting of #sweetcorn to determine it's readiness. His conclusion was that we wait at least one more day to continue our cornfest summer.

#today Here is the latest harvest of veg. ready to share out with the neighbors this morning. It was all gone in about an hour. Then I strung up some of the remaining onions to dry in the garage. These are not good keepers, so most will be used up in the next 6 weeks. Too hot outside to do much else today...

How it started - how it's going. Gone are the days of the photogenic garden. Now it's all about getting that harvest never mind how it looks. I'm up to about 20 Jet Stars and 50 Super Sweets (tomatoes) every day now. It's a jungle out there! 😀

#today I continued to move the composted corn stalk shreddings out to the garden as mulch. You can see all the shrew activity in the shot of the top of the pile when the carpet is removed. (The shrews are ok, they just move into the next pile. Pix also show the obligatory volunteer compost tomato. Stuff was shredded lat September and piled up here to sit over the winter. Turned once with a pitchfork in April and now done.
