As of today, I'm finally free of #GNOME extensions! The last extension I depended on was #GSConnect, but I replaced it with #Valent. Thanks @andyholmes :)

The only thing I miss are my used Gnome Shell Extensions. It will probably take longer until they get an update for Gnome 44.

Especially gsconnect for KDE Connect to connect my Pixel 5 with Graphene OS to my computer is sorely missing.

@jr #GSConnect runs as a #Gnome shell extension, which basicly means it's Gnome exclusive. #Valent, while being built on Gnome libraries, can be run independently from Gnome.

KDE Connect is a perfect application to send files, share clipboard, control media, mute media in case of an incoming call, use a device as input (mouse/keyboard) of another device and much more.

It runs on all main operating systems and don't need mandatory a Linux system. I use it between two smartphone as well with a smartphone and a MS Windows PC or for sure with my Linx PC!

Ist für mich auch ein unverzichtbarer täglicher Begleiter. Auf meinem Gnome nutze ich das als #GSConnect-Erweiterung.

Auch gut zu wissen: man kann viele Funktionen auch zwischen normalen Computern/Laptops verwenden, es ist also nicht auf Smartphones beschränkt.

I almost decided to uninstall #GSConnect (#KDEConnect) completely, but instead I'm just going to disable notification syncing.

I'm not sure why, but there often seems to be a significant delay before a phone notification shows up on my desktop, long after I've already replied to the WhatsApp message it was for example.

That, and I kind of like having fewer notifications, not more 😅 .

It's been nice to see a message show up on my desktop for an incoming phone call. Fancy stuff indeed :).

A bonus to now using an #Android powered phone for this one-month experiment is that I can finally give #GSConnect (The #GNOME extension port of #KDEConnect) a real try.

I am not big on notifications in general, disallowing most apps from even being able to show any, but the idea of being able to notice a phone call or Kakao message coming in while working seems potentially useful.

Let's see how this feels, and how it might affect battery life too.

Anybody who uses #KDE or #GNOME should look at #KDEConnect for their #phone. (#GSConnect extension for GNOME) It integrates your phone with your desktop so well that your phone feels like its part of your desktop.

Could #KDEConnectSMS or its GNOME equivalent be made to work as a #libpurple plugin for #Pidgin? I do like how Pidgin allows me to have my Matrix, IRC, Whatsapp, and Telegram all together, and it would really ice the cake to have access to my text messages there too.

@mattmcal yep, KDE connect can do this. If you are using KDE if should already be available. If you are using gnome there's the GS-Connect add-on which implements the KDE connect protocol. On your Android you need to install the KDE connect companion App. It's available on F-Droid as well

Gerade #gsconnect auf meinem #debian10 laptop installiert und problemlos mit der #kdeaconnect app aus @fdroidorg@mastodon.technology verbunden. Super Sache!! 2 Sachen tun nicht, ein Photo machen oder "Do not disturb" auf dem Smartphone schalten. Ansonsten SMS senden, Notifications, Files hin und her senden, Andoroid Filesystem durchsuchen, Remote für Präsentationen, Media Control auf dem Laptop .... #floss

Just repurposed an older laptop and installed #archlinux using the #gnome desktop and the LTS kernel. It is very lightweight, stable, and nimble. Then, installed #kodi and #gsconnect Gnome extension.

Also, repurposed an older #MotorolaG7, upgraded to #lineageos18, installed #kdeconnect.

Connected the laptop to an LED TV. Now, I can control the laptop with the phone with touch and keyboard inputs.

This, my friends, should be a good media center that is completely FOSS!
